This study was conducted by researchers within the Global Obesity Centre (GLOBE) in the Institute for Health Transformation at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia. The project forms part of INFORMAS (International Network for Food and Obesity/NCDs Research, Monitoring and Action Support), a global network of public-interest organisations and researchers that seek to monitor and benchmark public and private sector actions to create healthy food environments and reduce obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) globally.
The project team was led by Associate Professor Gary Sacks and coordinated by Research Fellow Ella Robinson. Oversight and expert guidance was provided by a steering committee that included the project team and the broader INFORMAS community including Prof Boyd Swinburn, Dr Lana Vanderlee and Dr Stefanie Vandevijvere.
This research was funded as part of an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DE160100307). No funding was received from any of the supermarkets, food and beverage manufacturers or quick-service restaurants assessed as part of the overall study. The research team declares that they have not received any funding from the food industry. The research was approved by the Human Ethics Advisory Group of the Faculty of Health at Deakin University, project number HEAG-H 205_2016.
